On July 8, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m., inmate Sha-Kez Amir Green was observed to be unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and members of the medical section immediately administered CPR and summoned rescue. Green was subsequently transported to the hospital. Green passed away in the hospital on the night of July 13.

The incident is being investigated by the Fairfax County Police Department per Sheriff's Office policy. The Sheriff's Office is also conducting an administrative investigation of the incident.
