Create Joyful Moments with the Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program

The Volunteer Post banner graphic

(Posted 2025 September)

staff with Adopt-A-Family donationsIt’s that magical time of year again—our Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program officially opens on September 15, 2025! Thanks to your incredible generosity, last year we set record-breaking milestones, bringing joy, hope, and love to 2,190 children and 1,009 families.

As we gear up for this holiday season, we’re incredibly excited to match even more donors like you with families who need a little extra support. Together, we can create countless moments of happiness that will light up our entire community.

Imagine the sparkle in a child’s eyes as they unwrap a gift chosen just for them. Or the heartfelt gratitude of a parent who knows they aren’t alone. That’s the joy you make possible. And this year, we’re determined to spread even more of it—with your help!

Ready to make the season brighter? Join us now by becoming an adopter, and let’s set the stage for another season of record-breaking holiday magic.

A New Way to Adopt-A-Family

2025 will look different for our Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program as we have partnered with Roonga, an innovative online platform that simplifies connecting donors with children and families. By removing our agency as the middleman, it speeds up the matching process, allowing you to start spreading holiday joy even sooner. It will be updated with new families throughout the season. Starting September 15, you will be able to start adopting families by logging onto the Roonga site.

Check Out Our Roonga Page!

car with adopt a family donationsHow does the new process work? Our practitioners input and update family requests directly into the online platform, ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date. The status of each request is tracked in real-time, providing full transparency and keeping everyone informed throughout the entire program.

What if I’m not tech-savvy? It’s no problem at all. We’re here to support you every step of the way! If you need assistance selecting a wish list or would like a member of the VPS team to guide you through the process, simply reach out to us. Our dedicated customer service team is happy to help! You can email or call us 703-324-7576.

Are there any rules or recommendations for gift giving? Absolutely, and our main rule is simple: have fun and enjoy spreading holiday cheer! Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

  • New Gifts Only: All holiday gifts must be brand new—we’re unable to accept used or gently used items, no matter their condition.
  • Unwrapped Gifts: Gifts should remain unwrapped, but donations of wrapping paper, gift bags, and supplies are more than welcome.
  • Suggested Budget: While there’s no set dollar amount, we recommend spending around $125-$150 per child, aiming to include 4-5 gifts per child, along with clothing. We kindly ask that you purchase items from the wish list, as these are the gifts the children truly desire and will cherish the most.
  • Caregiver Gift Cards: If possible, we kindly ask that you consider including a gift card for the caregiver(s), typically between $50-$100, to a large retailer or grocery store. Some caregivers may also provide their own wish list as part of the program.
  • Deadline: Deliver the unwrapped gifts or have them shipped to the referring worker by Friday, Dec. 12, 2025. Please do not deliver gifts to the family's home.

By following these guidelines, you’ll help ensure each family feels the warmth and generosity of the holiday season!

boxes of donationsI want to contribute, but am not interested in adopting a family, are there other ways? Of course! We can always accept other donations throughout the year that help support the families in our area who are in need. You can make an impact and help families during the holidays or any time of the year by making a monetary contribution or providing gift cards to grocery stores, big box stores, or gas stations.

You can also shop our Amazon Wish List for frequently requested items. All in-kind donations must be brand-new. We are unable to accept any items that are used or gently used, regardless of their condition.

For monetary contributions, please make checks out to: Volunteer and Partner Services and mail them to:
