Bennie Herron, Father Engagement Unit supervisor

Bennie Herron, Father Engagement Unit supervisor, had the honor of being the guest speaker for OKK Chapter Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated’s kickoff event for their Annual Achievement Week 2026 at the Reston Community Center. During his presentation Herron addressed how fathers play a crucial role in shaping the lives of their children and families.

The conversation emphasized how active fatherhood contributes significantly to a child’s emotional and psychological well-being. He shared research indicating that children with involved fathers tend to perform better academically, exhibit fewer behavioral problems, and develop stronger social skills.

Herron's talk also addressed the societal trends surrounding father absence and urged attendees to recognize their potential to disrupt these patterns. He spoke passionately about the importance of mentorship and community programs that support father involvement, particularly in underserved areas. During the question-and-answer portion there was a robust discussion focusing on the need for fathers to cultivate strong family bonds. Herron highlighted practical strategies for engagement, such as spending quality time, open communication, and active participation in children’s lives. His anecdotes resonated with many attendees, sparking discussions about personal experiences and challenges.

Bennie Herron’s presentation served not only as a reminder of the importance of fatherhood but also as a catalyst for ongoing dialogue about the responsibilities and joys of being a father in today’s world. His passionate advocacy for active fatherhood is a message that continues to inspire and motivate individuals within the fraternity and beyond.

If you are interested in helping fathers to reach their full potential our winter Dad’s Parenting Groups will be beginning February 10, and we always welcome additional volunteer facilitators. Learn more about this opportunity or apply today
