The Fairfax 50+ Community Action Plan

The 50+ Community Action Plan, approved by the Board of Supervisors in 2014, was a five-year plan that identified initiatives to make Fairfax County a better place to age, a place for older adults to live safely, independently, and with dignity. The plan was completed in 2019. The work continues to move forward with the SHAPE the Future of Aging plan.

Fairfax County Projects a Dramatic Increase In Its Older Population

This is why the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors adopted The Fairfax County 50+ Community Action Plan on September 23, 2014.

The Action Plan includes 31 initiatives regarding housing, transportation, community engagement, services, safety and health and long-range planning.

The initiatives were proposed during a countywide community development process, led by the Board of Supervisors and the Fairfax Area Commission on Aging, in the summer of 2013. Over 800 people offered their ideas at forums held throughout the county and via public comment periods.

But this is only the beginning. . . . Just as the community created the plan, it is now invited to implement it.

 

We hope you’ll take a look at the plan and then consider ways you, your neighborhood, faith community, service club, business or nonprofit agency can create a more vibrant, active and supportive community for older adults.
