Volunteer and Partner Services is currently recruiting bilingual volunteers to support our Body Safety Program and our BeFriend-A-Child Mentoring Program. If you can speak Spanish and English, you are a great candidate to help us make a difference in our community!
In addition to making use of those language skills, volunteering can keep you mentally stimulated, provide a sense of purpose, help you master new abilities, and make you feel happier and healthier. Check out these opportunities to serve children in our community who are at risk:
The Body Safety Program
Teach children 4-12 years of age to prevent child abuse and neglect, using an age-appropriate curriculum that builds a child’s safety skills. The classes are offered at NO COST to participants in Fairfax County Public Schools and other county agencies or community centers. We are expanding our reach in the fall to offer the classes to school groups in Spanish as well.
We need Spanish speaking volunteers who can help us make an impact in the children’s lives. If you’re available during school hours, enjoy teaching school-age children, and you are ready to commit to teach at least 4-6 classes a month for one school year, please feel free to apply for this opportunity! We will have a training on August 11, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The BeFriend-A-Child Mentoring Program
For more than 40 years, BeFriend-A-Child has paired volunteer mentors with children 5 to 12 years old to provide companionship, support, and guidance. The program helps to enhance children’s self-esteem and forms healthy relationships through one-on-one outings and bi-monthly group events. If you enjoy connecting and sharing experiences with school-age children, consider becoming a volunteer mentor. For the safety of the kids, and the continuity of the relationship, a complete screening and a two-year commitment are required for this volunteer opportunity. Apply online today!
Even if these aren’t the right opportunities for you, please share the information with others who are qualified! In VPS we are so happy to offer meaningful volunteer opportunities to change the lives of the children in our community, together we can do so much, the choice is yours!
