SAVE THE DATE: VPS 2022 Volunteer Appreciation Event Scheduled for Tuesday, April 26
What can we say! It’s been one crazy year after another and throughout it all, one thing remains the same…our amazing volunteers! April is National Volunteer Month, and Volunteer & Partner Services, is thanking our dedicated volunteers and donors who have continued to show up day in and day out! Check out some of the ways VPS volunteers made an impact for children in our community in FY 2021 and find out how we are celebrating YOU!
Planting Pinwheel Gardens for Prevention
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. As part of the effort to raise awareness and interrupt the cycle of abuse and neglect, volunteers will be planting pinwheel gardens around our community at libraries, community centers, local businesses, houses of worship, and schools.

Announcing Some Exciting Staffing Changes in Volunteer & Partner Services
We are announcing some exciting staffing changes in Volunteer & Partner Services. Welcome Arrika Freeman who is joining VPS as the new program and partnership coordinator. Arrika is very passionate about impacting families from the onset of a child’s life. Help us congratulate Emily Swenson on her promotion to the position of Befriend-A-Child Mentoring Program co-coordinator, a position that will help to grow the program. She is excited to continue serving families in her new role with VPS. Check out their profiles.
Recognizing National Child Abuse Prevention & Sexual Assault Awareness Months
During the intersection of Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we want to bring attention to the importance of providing basic education to children and families that can help increase awareness and prevent or interrupt abuse.

The Volunteer Post Newsletter is part of the Department of Family Services Volunteer & Partner Services Program (VPS) - managing volunteer programs (Administrative Assistant Program, BeFriend-A-Child Mentoring Program, Body Safety Program - Speak Up Be Safe, On-Call volunteers, Study Buddy Tutoring Program); recruiting and training volunteers for programs (Father Engagement Program and Parenting Education Programs); and working with partners, sponsors and donors to help in special efforts (Adopt-A-Family Program, Baby box initiative, back-to-school backpacks).
