Fairfax County Foster Care and Adoption invites the community to attend a special event in recognition of National Foster Care Month this May.
Join us Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Herndon Fortnightly Library as we raise awareness and encourage community involvement in supporting children in foster care.
According to the Virginia Department of Social Services, in February 2026, there were 5,800 children in foster care in the Commonwealth of Virginia, 250 of whom were in Fairfax County. These children need the caring support of our community to overcome their challenges.
Foster parents play an unmatched role in providing loving, temporary homes for children, while supporting their biological parents and other relatives in their efforts to enhance and stabilize their family relationships until children reach permanency. We can always use more dedicated foster parents!
If you are curious, come to an event and find out about the foster care system, our critical needs, and the life-changing rewards of becoming a foster parent. You’ll hear from Fairfax County Foster Care social workers, current foster parents, and community partners eager to share other ways to get involved.
