This is a G Status position.

Under general supervision, provides paraprofessional support to Human Service Workers who determine eligibility for public assistance programs. Uses of automated technology to document, obtain, and verify information, and to generate reports including scanning of documents. Prepares and maintains statistical reports and records. Assists with the coordination and monitoring of the unit work. Provides back up for administrative aids as workloads and deadlines require. Interacts with county staff, community-based organizations, and customers to answer inquiries, problem solve and verify information that is needed. Identifies, researches, and solves service delivery problems.  Supports all areas of Central Function Team as needed.  

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school or GED issued by the State department of education; plus, three years of work experience, including two years in some area of human services (related two-year [associate] degree may be substituted for the required human service experience).

Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in English and Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Farsi, or Arabic. Previous experience in working with the public and managing multiple tasks at one time. Clear and concise oral and written communications skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience in using Virginia state systems; VaCMS, OpenText, and SPIDeR. Experience and proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel computer software applications; and the willingness to learn new applications and systems as needed. The education or experience should have prepared the applicant with the ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse population.

The appointees to this position will be required to satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer, ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and shoulder movements, ability to stoop, bend and reach, visual acuity to review documents.  All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Under general supervision, this position works as part of the Health Services Division serving as a Public Health Nurse float pool, assigned to cover staffing needs in the School Health program. Responsibilities are to provide a variety of community health services to diverse populations in the school community, using a multi-disciplinary approach.  Assesses, evaluates, and monitors students, families and school health needs; conducts school and home visits; provides care coordination, case finding, and disease prevention outreach and health promotion for students, families and communities.  Must have a strong working knowledge of computers, and ability to provide health related training in the school community. Must be accessible for assignments Monday through Friday.

Note: This is a non-merit G-Status temporary position. Cannot exceed 900 hours per calendar year. Appointee is not eligible for benefits and does not earn paid leave or holiday pay. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing; plus one year post-licensure nursing experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of a current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Incumbent must possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a Criminal Background check, a Child Protective Services Registry, and a Sanction Screening to the satisfaction of the employer. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience providing health services to school aged children in ethnically diverse populations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Ability to complete CPR BLS training and demonstrate resuscitation techniques in an emergency. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Two Alcohol Safety Action Program group leader positions are vacant. These positions perform at the level of a Probation Counselor I (S-20.) 

Under supervision and within the guidelines of a VASAP-approved curriculum, the group leaders prepare and instruct a 10-hour or 8-hour alcohol and/or drug and driver education program appropriate to the classification level for the class. They are responsible for implementing several Fairfax County ASAP policies and procedures. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, counseling, or related field, plus one year of graduate study and two years of experience in leading psych educational programs. Knowledge of classroom techniques and knowledge of substance abuse and its personal and societal effects is a must. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, counseling or related field, plus two years psych educational instruction experience.

The Office of Elections is currently recruiting voters to serve as Election Officers a few days a year. Election Officers are needed at each of the 242 precincts in Fairfax County to run the polls and assist the voters. Election Officers must be registered voters in Virginia and complete required training and forms. You may choose to accept the $175 stipend for a full day, or volunteer your time.
