Job Description:
Assists the Camp Director with all the following duties, as well as fulfills duties independently in absence of Camp Director:
- Planning, implementing, and evaluating daily camp activities and schedules that are age appropriate (camper age groups are 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10 years old).
- Supervision of camp counselors
- Responsible for day-to-day leadership during the camp program, general supervision, and for establishing proper lines of communication with parents.

Under the supervision of the RCC Lifelong Learning Program Director, a Language Learning (aka Foreign Language) Instructor teaches classes (e.g. French, Spanish, Chinese, etc.) to include a course outline and individual session lesson plans in accordance with RCC policies. The instructor is responsible for supply inventory and must notify the supervising Program Director regarding class supply needs as well as all equipment and audio-visual needs. This position exercises a high level of independent judgment in planning and organizing classroom activities. Language Learning Instructors will teach on-site at RCC/Hunters Woods. Instructors are expected to provide a class description and syllabus to the appropriate Program Director and will assist with contacting registered students regarding any necessary supplies and materials.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach according to approved course outline and advertised content;
- Recommend supply lists within existing budgets or requests one-time patron-paid supply fee;
- Familiarity with the RCC evacuation and emergency procedures;
- Maintain control of classroom with disciplinary action in accordance with RCC guidelines;
- Arrive 10 minutes prior to the beginning of each class to ascertain that the classroom space is correctly set up and is safe for the participants;
- Begin and end classes on time;
- Supervise students attending classes at all times, after class has begun;
- Report patron medical emergencies that occur during class, property damage or other acts of vandalism using RCC Incident Report forms within 24 hours;
- Responsible for the proper use, care, and security of RCC equipment and facilities;

- Promote Center programming through referral of patrons to other RCC staff when questions extend beyond the instructor’s area of expertise;
- Administer and collect RCC class evaluation forms at the end of each class workshop;

- Refer requests for refunds, transfers, suggestions, and complaints to immediate supervisor;
- Notify immediate supervisor a minimum of four hours in advance of class if unable to instruct class due to illness or other emergency situations;
- Responsible for notifying students of class cancellation if it is due to a non-emergency situation;
- Verify attendance and telephone numbers in the first class. Class participants not listed may not be allowed into class and must be reported to immediate supervisor;
- Provide written descriptions of course content to RCC Program Director as needed for preparation of publicity materials;
- Complete time sheets after each class session for payroll purposes (applicable to County Exempt Employees, not Independent Contractors).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus at least two years working in a related field;
- Certification in a specialized field;
- Exercises a high level of independent judgment and teaching and good communication skills in individual or group settings;
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of four years study or training at an accredited college or university or equivalent certification in a specialty area;
- At least two years of work experience teaching related program in a classroom setting;
