Land Use

From the new mixed use community at Liberty Hill, to the renovation of Original Mount Vernon High School and the revitalization of Richmond Highway, development is an important aspect of the Mount Vernon District.  As we navigate this new growth and revitalization, emphasis will be on smart growth that is appropriate for each location.  Many of the changes on Richmond Highway will convert current sprawl to walkable urban centers, designed for compact, transit-oriented, walkable, bicycle-friendly land use, complete streets and mixed-use development with a range of housing choices.  In addition, all growth or renovations will be reviewed with a keen attention to environmental impact, including the incorporation of livable, breathable, environmentally pleasing components with an eye to curbside beautification.
