VOTING RECORDS OF FAIRFAX COUNTY, 1854 – 1936
Per § 24.2-669 of the Code of Virginia, the Clerk of Court is custodian of election returns. Historic (pre-1913) election records are held at the Historic Records Center. This collection contains records such as poll books, election returns, petitions, and capitation tax lists. Please note that the voting records collection is not complete due to loss or destruction of records.
GENERAL REGISTER OF VOTERS, 1902-1903
The General Register of Voters records those men who registered to vote in 1902. The voters’ register is separated into precincts, and is also segregated, divided into “White” and “Colored” sections.
Information contained in this ledger includes name; birthdate; age in years; occupation; residence; length of residence in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the County of Fairfax, and the individual precinct; tax exemption status; and in some instances, whether the registrant was a veteran of the Civil War or a naturalized citizen.
After women gained the right to vote in 1920, registrars in some precincts used this ledger to register women to vote, including those in the Falls Church and Herndon precincts.
Several precincts in this register have been renamed or have otherwise disappeared. Modern-day locations have been added in parentheses for those now known by another name or no longer used.
