Hours: Individuals in these positions are scheduled to work 36.4 hours bi-weekly Monday through Friday. Appointees are required to work a flexible schedule. This position may not exceed 900 hours per calendar year.
Salary: (Pay Grade S-8). Starting at $16.76 / hour. Benefits are not included.
Location: Greater Mt. Vernon Community Head Start – Gum Springs Children’s Center at 8100 Fordson Road, Alexandria, VA 22306.

Assists in the care and instruction of preschool-age children in a day care center, and performs related work as required. Develops Age-appropriate experiential activities and adjusts the environment according to children’s individual needs. Follows all procedures for the prevention of health hazards and ensures the safety of children. Performs developmental screenings and assessments as needed. Assists in the preparation of documentation for local agency, state licensing and federal Head Start performance standards. Interacts with county staff, citizens, and members of the community.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or G.E.D. issued by a state department of education.

Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and a tuberculosis (TB) screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications: Major course work in early childhood education. Experience working with groups of children.

Hours: Individuals in these positions work mornings, afternoons and evenings, 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday for 40 weeks a year, with summer, winter and spring breaks off. Occasional flexible work hours and full days required (teacher workdays, delayed openings, early releases, etc.). This position may not exceed 1560 hours per calendar year.
Salary: (Pay Grade S-15). Starting at $19.83 / hour. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.
Location: Position is based in one of the School Age Child Care (SACC) Centers  located throughout Fairfax County.

Plans, prepares, and carries out activities and projects for groups of elementary school-age children enrolled in a before and/or after-school program. Provides leadership and ensures the safety of the children enrolled in the center.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: Completion of two years of study and training at an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in early childhood or elementary education, nursing, recreation, or a related field plus one year of related work experience.

Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and a tuberculosis (TB) screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

Two Alcohol Safety Action Program group leader positions are vacant. These positions perform at the level of a Probation Counselor I (S-20.) 

Under supervision and within the guidelines of a VASAP-approved curriculum, the group leaders prepare and instruct a 10-hour or 8-hour alcohol and/or drug and driver education program appropriate to the classification level for the class. They are responsible for implementing several Fairfax County ASAP policies and procedures. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, counseling, or related field, plus one year of graduate study and two years of experience in leading psych educational programs. Knowledge of classroom techniques and knowledge of substance abuse and its personal and societal effects is a must. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, counseling or related field, plus two years psych educational instruction experience.
