Under the supervision of the Child Care Specialist III, provides supervision for children under their care. Develop Age-Appropriate experiential activities and adjusts the environment according to children's individual needs. Follow all procedures for the prevention of health hazards and ensures the safety of children. Performs developmental screenings and assessments as needed. Assists in the preparation of documentation for local agency, state licensing and federal Head Start performance standards. Interacts with county staff, citizens, and members of the community.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to a Child Development Associates in Early Childhood Education, (CDA-Preschool), or course work in early childhood, or a related field plus one year of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Major course work in early childhood education. Experience working with groups of children. 

Special Requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and a tuberculosis (TB).

Salary: Starting at $19.83 – benefits eligible. (This position may not exceed 1560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.)
Locations/Schedule: SACC centers are located throughout Fairfax County. Individuals in these positions work mornings, afternoons and evenings, 30 hours per week, Monday thru Friday for 40 weeks, with summer, winter and spring break off. Occasional flexible work hours and full days required (teacher workdays, delayed openings, early releases, etc.).

Plans, prepares, and carries out activities and projects for groups of elementary school-age children enrolled in a before and after-school program. Provides leadership and ensures the safety of the children enrolled in the center.

Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of two years of study and training at an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in early childhood or elementary education, nursing, recreation, or a related field plus one year of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Major course work in early childhood education. Experience working with groups of children. Bilingual ability.

Two Alcohol Safety Action Program group leader positions are vacant. These positions perform at the level of a Probation Counselor I (S-20.) 

Under supervision and within the guidelines of a VASAP-approved curriculum, the group leaders prepare and instruct a 10-hour or 8-hour alcohol and/or drug and driver education program appropriate to the classification level for the class. They are responsible for implementing several Fairfax County ASAP policies and procedures. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, counseling, or related field, plus one year of graduate study and two years of experience in leading psych educational programs. Knowledge of classroom techniques and knowledge of substance abuse and its personal and societal effects is a must. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, counseling or related field, plus two years psych educational instruction experience.
