Food Access Program

The Food Access Program (FAP) is intended to aid the community in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. A third investment of $4 million is available, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). These funds may be subject to federal regulations. All qualified applicants will be funded through this informal application and review process. Funding is for direct food assistance and infrastructure investments; staffing and overhead costs are not permissible.
Community based organizations and Houses of Worship (501(c)3 organizations located in or serving Fairfax County) can apply for funding in two different lanes to ensure that our local food system remains strong and sustainable:

  • Lane 1 is for the direct food assistance in the amount of $2.5 million and will be proportionately allocated according to regional need. This lane will support program proposals for existing food programs to purchase food and reusable items for program participants, such as hand carts and reusable bags.
  • Lane 3 is to provide $1.5 million in infrastructure investments such as refrigerated food storage, heavy duty shelving, cargo vans, lifts, etc. This funding is for infrastructure investments that remain with the organization. Funding in this lane will be for direct purchase and cannot be for any programmatic staffing costs.

Please carefully read the application instructions and requirements and provide all necessary information and supporting documentation when completing the online application. The links to the budget templates for each lane are provided below. Please download the applicable budget template(s), complete the template(s), and then upload into the applicable online application. Documentation to confirm the 501(c)3 status of your organization should be uploaded as requested in each online application. Applications will not be considered complete unless all pertinent documents have been received.
