On Saturday, February 29, the NCS Co-ed Intramural Basketball League wrapped up its fifth season with its semifinal and championship games. One of the two teams representing South County Teen Center beat Reston Teen Center by two points in the championship game. Throughout the 10-week season, eight youth teams comprised of teen and community center participants enjoyed the chance to play and compete.
Among sports leagues in Fairfax County, NCS Intramural Basketball is unique because there are no barriers to participation. The program is free, and any teen or community center that can fill a team is welcome to compete. NSC staff serve as commissioners and coaches for the league and work to ensure that every participant has fun, builds self-esteem, and develops skills such as socialization, leadership, decision-making and accepting responsibility.
In addition to basketball, the NCS Intramural Sports League offers soccer and flag football seasonally, plus one-day volleyball and kickball tournaments. New this year, VIP Summer Camp participants will participate in a track and field meet. Soccer league tryouts take place during the month of March and the season begins March 21.
