The Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services is highlighting the importance of our afterschool programs with Lights On Afterschool events at four of our Community Centers.
The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool, which falls on Oct. 20, 2022, to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things – such as science, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do and poetry – and discover new skills. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.
NCS offers such programs at Community Centers and Teen Centers located throughout Fairfax County. We provide a safe, structured environment for promoting social connections, commitment to learning, health, wellness and individual growth. Whether it’s on a school day or during summer, spring or winter break, our Out-of-School Time Programs are designed to support the ongoing and well-rounded learning and development of Fairfax County youth and teens.
