Judges, Community Booths & Performers Sought for Fairfax County 4-H Fair

4-H Fair

Fairfax County's 4-H program is currently seeking judges, community booth participants and entertainment acts for the 2023 Fairfax County 4-H Fair and Carnival. The event will take place at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon, Va. on Aug. 3-6, 2023.

Judges are needed for the 13 different exhibition categories:

  • Clothing & Textiles
  • Crafts & Woodworking
  • Floriculture
  • Foods & Nutrition
  • Horticulture
  • Interior Design
  • Photography, Black & White
  • Photography, Color
  • Science & Technology
  • Scrapbooks & Displays
  • Short Films
  • Visual Arts
  • Writing

4-H will provide training for judges. Follow this link to register as a judge.

Judge Training (click date for registration link)

  • Tuesday, July 186 - 7 p.m., Judges Orientation (Zoom, 1 of 2 offerings)
  • Saturday, July 29, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Judges Orientation (Zoom, 2 of 2 offerings)
  • Friday, August 4 (at Frying Pan Farm Park), 6 - 7 p.m., Judges/Superintendents/Adult Advisors Dinner (provided) and refresher training followed by exhibit judging at 7 p.m.

Community Educational Tables

There will be community tables space available for educational and nonprofit organizations. Tables are provided free of charge during the 4-H Fair weekend. Exhibitors should provide a hands-on educational activity (see signup for more details).

4-H will supply one six-foot table and two chairs, under a tent. Electrical hook-up is unavailable, and the use of generators is prohibited. This is not a vendor space; no selling or monetary transactions. Booth Coverage times: Saturday, Aug. 5, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and/or Sunday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Stage Acts & Entertainment

4-H is seeking to showcase local talent in stage performances and demonstrations during the 4-H Fair and Carnival. Time slots are available Saturday, Aug. 5, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Please keep in mind this is a family-friendly event. Stage acts are provided a free stage.

The Fairfax County 4-H Youth Development Program is offered by the Virginia Cooperative Extension as part of its partnership with the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services. Fairfax County 4-H offers a variety of activities that emphasize 4-H’s “learning by doing philosophy.  The Fairfax County Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension brings the resources of Virginia's land-grant universities - Virginia Tech and Virginia State University - to the people of the commonwealth. Fairfax County 4-H presents the annual Fairfax County 4-H Fair at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon, Va.  Frying Pan Farm Park is owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority with support from the Fairfax County Park Foundation and Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park.
