NCS Inclement Weather Guidance

On occasion, inclement weather may affect the operation of Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Center facilities, programs and services. Decisions regarding closures or cancellation are made with the utmost regard for the safety of our participants and staff. In the event of inclement weather, the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) posts all facility closures and delays online and on Facebook. 

All NCS Facilities follow the status of Fairfax County Government for closures. If Fairfax County Government is closed for the entire day, all NCS programs and services are canceled.  Programming, transportation, meals and other services may be impacted by Fairfax County Public Schools Status. Status updates are available by calling the Neighborhood and Community Services Main Office at 703-324-4600, TTY 711, or by using the Facility Locator to contact a facility directly.  

Monitoring the status of Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools can provide general guidance as to the operational status of our facilities.

GENERAL GUIDANCE

NCS Facilities and Programs

  • For 2-hour delays, SACC/Beyond the Bell Centers will open at 8 a.m. for children enrolled in the Before School session. For delays of less than two hours, SACC/Beyond the Bell will open on time.
  • All other NCS Community Centers, Senior Centers and Teen Centers are open regular hours. No meals or FASTRAN transportation available. If you have questions about programs, please contact your center directly. 
  • Therapeutic Recreation – For updates, call 703-324-5519 at least one hour prior to the start of the activity.  
  • Adult Day Health Care – Open at 9 a.m. Breakfast and FASTRAN Transportation unavailable.
  • Gum Springs Head Start and Gum Springs Glen Early Head Start will operate on a regular schedule.
  • Infant Toddler Connection – Service Coordinators will call if your appointment is impacted. 
  • Athletic Field and Gym Use - For updates, call facility cancellation hotline at 703-324-5264, TTY 711.

NCS Facilities and Programs

  • All SACC/Beyond the Bell Centers are CLOSED, including non-school sites.

  • NCS Community Centers and Senior Centers will open at 10 a.m. No meals or Fastran transportation available. Special events and instructor-led programs are canceled.

  • NCS Teen Centers located at FCPS locations are closed; other sites will open at 2 p.m.  Special events and instructor-led programs are canceled.

  • Therapeutic Recreation – For updates, call 703-324-5519 at least one hour prior to the start of the activity.

  • Adult Day Health Care Open from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Breakfast and FASTRAN Transportation unavailable

  • Gum Springs Head Start and Gum Springs Glen Early Head Start is closed.

  • Infant Toddler Connection – Service Coordinators will call if your appointment is impacted.

  • Athletic Field and Gym Use - For updates, call facility cancellation hotline at 703-324-5264, TTY 711.
