Franconia Supervisor Rodney Lusk and the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services are seeking a mural artist to design and paint the outside east wall (168 feet by 16 feet) at Hybla Valley Community Center, 7950 Audubon Ave., Alexandria, VA.
The project is time sensitive: Applications are due by April 30, 2024. Artists whose work will go forward as part of a community voting project will be notified May 3. There will be a community voting period May 6 - 17, and the selected artist will be notified the week of May 20.
Work on the mural will begin the week of May 28 and must be completed by June 14.

Fairfax County purchased the facility, originally the Mount Vernon Athletic Club, in May 2020, and the center officially opened in May 2022. The county made several improvements to the facility in the areas of basic accessibility, capital renewal, safety and community use updates. In addition to providing resources for the community, the community center is also the site of the Workforce Innovation Skills Hub (W.I.S.H.), a workforce training and development center.
