Celebrate Park and Recreation Month with NCS!

At its July 16, 2024, meeting, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors proclaimed July Park and Recreation Month in Fairfax County. NCS employees joined colleagues from the Fairfax County Park Authority, McLean Community Center and Reston Community Center to accept the proclamation and celebrate the diverse recreation opportunities available throughout Fairfax County.

Park and Recreation Month is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Since 1985, the United States has celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation, and to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers.

This year’s Park and Recreation Month theme — “Where You Belong” — celebrates the many ways park and recreation professionals across the country foster a sense of belonging in their community by providing welcoming and inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities, and safe, accessible spaces to build meaningful connection. Parks and recreational spaces and opportunities are vital to improving physical and mental health. Park and Recreation Month is the perfect time for community members to visit an NCS program to learn, relax, move, connect and improve overall well-being.

"NCS employees work tirelessly to offer high quality recreation opportunities to persons of all ages and abilities in Fairfax County," said NCS Director Lloyd Tucker.  "From camps to therapeutic recreation to older adult programs, we're proud to provide families and individuals with access to enriching opportunities that help our community to thrive."

NCS invites community members to find where they belong by exploring recreational opportunities throughout Fairfax County. Visit NCS' Park and Recreation Month webpage to find recreational opportunities in your neighborhood!
