Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services invites youth and young adults ages 14 – 24 to attend the Discover Your Path Expo on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Jim Scott Community Center, 3001 Vaden Dr., Fairfax.
The expo will offer an array of career opportunities and resources for Fairfax County’s in-school youth, graduating seniors, recent graduates and those who seek employment pathways. There will be engaging workforce development and career readiness workshops, as well as the opportunity to connect with professionals, employers and trade schools. Fairfax County Public Schools are not in session on Oct. 3.
The Discover Your Path Expo will equip attendees with the tools and guidance necessary to navigate their professional journeys successfully. The workshops will help attendees receive career guidance, develop job search skills, make connections with an improved resume and build interview skills.
A highlight of the event is an interactive poverty simulation session to teach real-world budgeting skills. A poverty simulation is an eye-opening and fun experiential exercise that helps participants better understand the tough everyday choices it takes to survive when the arithmetic of life just doesn’t add up.
“With some of the challenges young people are presented in the post-COVID era, it isn’t always easy accessing opportunities to achieve their academic and professional goals. We look forward to having this chance to connect them with tools for success on their path to upward mobility,” said NCS Director Lloyd Tucker.
