Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services, along with county partner agencies, is proud to support July’s National Park and Recreation Month.
Representatives from NCS, Fairfax County Park Authority, McLean Community Center and Reston Community Center were present for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ proclamation on July 14, 2026, honoring July as Park and Recreation Month. Park Authority Executive Director Jai Cole accepted proclamation on behalf of the agencies.

The proclamation notes that these four agencies work to meet the county’s diverse recreational needs, providing facilities, athletic fields, programming, camps, classes and more to improve physical, mental and emotional health for the community.
Since 1985, the United States has celebrated Park and Recreation Month each July to recognize the vital role parks and recreation play in building strong, vibrant and resilient communities. This year's theme from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), "The Power of Parks and Recreation," celebrates the power of connection, play, community, nature, belonging and well-being that parks and recreation bring to people's lives.
This theme strongly aligns with NCS’ mission to partner with families and individuals to provide opportunities to access a continuum of resources that promote equity and create positive outcomes for people of all ages and abilities.
