To help fill the food pantries of area nonprofits, Stuff the Bus held food drives on two Saturdays in September. On both days, buses were parked at 21 locations throughout the county, including many Board of Supervisors’ offices, Fairfax County Public Schools and the Fairfax County Government Center. On Saturdays, these are less-frequented locations which allowed donors to comply with social distancing guidelines. 

During the two drives, the Fairfax County community generously donated 27.6 tons of food to 10 area nonprofits. In addition to donating food, community members also showed their support by volunteering at Stuff the Bus donation sites. Members of student government, Boy Scout troops and individual volunteers masked up to help carry, stack and organize donations.

“For me, Stuff the Bus always serves as a reminder of the goodness and generosity of the people of Fairfax County. Even during difficult times, our residents can be counted on to step up and help their neighbors,” says NCS Director Chris Leonard.
