Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services is pleased to announce a new web page celebrating the accomplishments and impact of Black leaders and community members who have provided the inspiration, leadership or vision that contributed to NCS.
This page is launching in February 2025 in honor of Black History Month. Black History Month has been celebrated annually in the United States since 1976, and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed February 2025 as Black History Month in Fairfax County. The web page also features information on Fairfax County and NCS Black History Month programs and events.
The collection of stories is an opportunity to learn about the people whose lives have impacted NCS' history and current mission - and are being remembered for generations with their name on NCS facilities and historical markers.
NCS will continue to expand this collection as part of NCS Stories - an initiative to preserve and share stories of the persons, places and events that shaped the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services. To share additional information for potential inclusion on this page or other Stories pages, please email NCSCommunications@fairfaxcounty.gov.
