VQB5 Quality Profiles and Honor Roll
To prepare all children for kindergarten, Virginia’s early childhood system must ensure that all children have quality teaching and learning experiences that meet their unique needs. In response to state law, Virginia has developed the Unified Virginia Quality Birth to Five System (VQB5) to measure and help improve the quality of all publicly-funded birth-to-five classrooms and support families to choose quality programming across program types.
VQB5 Quality Ratings are based on results from teacher-child interactions and curriculum measurements gathered from every birth-to-five classroom. These measures are predictive of school readiness; children in classrooms that score higher will likely learn more.

VQB5 Quality Profiles are available for publicly-funded preschools, Head Starts, child care centers, and family day home programs in Virginia.
For the first time, Virginia awarded VQB5 Honor Roll designations to nearly 500 sites across the Commonwealth based on excellence, high-quality infant/toddler programming, and/or significant improvement.

The Excellence Honor Roll recognizes sites that achieve Exceeds Expectations, the highest possible rating in VQB5. These sites are also national exemplars.

The Infant-Toddler Quality Honor Roll recognizes top teacher-child interactions performance at child care centers and family day homes who serve infants and/or toddlers.

The Improvement Honor Roll recognizes sites that demonstrate significant improvement in the quality of their teacher-child interactions from one year to the next.
