Starting October 5, NCS Virtual Programming for Older Adults Will Expand Thanks to Friends Donation

Since the launch of the Virtual Center for Active Adults in May, older adults and adults with disabilities have enjoyed the 30+ programs and classes offered weekly by senior center staff. The popularity of the classes has led to requests for additional programs and classes on a variety of topics. To meet the demand, the VCAA is launching a second Zoom account starting October 5

The two Zoom accounts have been named to reflect the types of classes being hosted on each account. The VCAA’s current Zoom account will now be called Fit & FAB (Flexible, Active, Balance) and will host all health and fitness classes such as Gentle Yoga, Intermediate Tai Chi and SAIL. The second Zoom account has been named Social SPACE (Socialize, Play, Achieve, Create, Edu-tain) and will host all social, creative and cognitive programs such as Lunch Bunch, Creative Corner and Cranium Crunches.

To provide this expanded programming, NCS turned to their friends for help. The Friends of Fairfax County Senior Centers, Inc., a registered 501.c.3 organization dedicated to supporting Fairfax County’s 14 senior centers, purchased the second Zoom account on behalf of NCS. Purchase of the Zoom account aligned perfectly with FOFCSC’s mission of providing financial support to senior centers in Fairfax County to provide and engage active opportunities for adults ages 50 and over. “It’s a pleasure to support the senior centers by purchasing a Zoom account. I have been so impressed by the number and variety of virtual programs being offered by senior center staff and I can’t wait to see what programs they will offer next,” said Bill Cowdrey, President of the Friends of Fairfax County Senior Centers, Inc.

Current program participants should check the VCAA’s weekly events calendar or the VCAA website starting October 5 because some of the days, times, login and password information will be changing for existing classes. New classes will be introduced on a weekly basis, so participants are encouraged to check back weekly to see the latest offerings. On October 5, new classes being offered will include Line Dancing, Adapted Yoga and Painting & Mixed Media Monday.

If you need technical assistance joining the virtual events offered by the VCAA, please send an email to NCSVCAA@fairfaxcounty.gov. To learn more about the FOFCSC and how you can support their mission, visit https://www.fofcsc.org.
