Find Connection, Stay Active and Have Fun!

The goal of the Virtual Center for Active Adults is to enrich the lives of older adults and adults with disabilities in Northern Virginia while combatting isolation. Here you can connect with your peers, engage in a variety of activities, and discover useful resources.

Join live, interactive programs and engage with other adults. You can also watch prerecorded programs on demand on your own schedule.

Please Note: Due to health and safety concerns and to avoid unnecessary disruptions, classes will close 10 minutes after their start time and new participants will not be admitted. 

Programs and lectures offered on the VCAA are intended to educate our participants and enrich their lives. We are not promoting any particular service, opinion or cause. The views expressed by a presenter are their own and are not necessarily endorsed by the VCAA or its partner jurisdictions.

During inclement weather, scheduled VCAA classes and programs may be substituted or canceled without warning. When classes are canceled, please visit the VCAA playlist on YouTube to participate in a wide variety of pre-recorded fitness classes and other activities.

Beginner Tai Chi*

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that incorporates a series of weight shifting, circular movements, and postural exercises. It is low impact and can be adapted to the student’s fitness level.

Relax and strengthen your mind and body.

Body and Mind

Please join us for a fun combination of exercises designed to help improve your strength mobility and balance paired with other activities designed to put your brain to work and keep you sharp.

10:15-11:15 a.m. 
Three and a Half Acres (THAY) Yoga*

This mat-based yoga class is designed specifically for older adults or anyone interested in a gentle yoga session. Yoga poses can easily be modified to fit your comfort level and physical ability. All levels are welcome. Please check with your doctor before starting this or any exercise program.


10:15-11:15 a.m. 
ZUMBA Gold*

Enjoy a lower-intensity version of Zumba class that is designed to meet the needs of active adults.

10:15-11:15 a.m.
SAIL - Stay Active and Independent for Life*

A strength, balance and fitness class for adults 65+. Both level 1 and level 2 instruction will be available. 
  • Level 1: Seated exercise that is similar to a chair exercise with a steady pace routine. 
  • Level 2: Standing exercise with a higher pace routine.

11:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
30-Minute Yoga with Shea

Join Arlington County’s staff, Shea, for this 30-minute practice of yoga postures! Be sure to consult with your physician for professional medical advice before beginning this or any exercise program.

Introduction to the Library of Virginia with Ashley Craig

Family historians and genealogists are always looking for new records and digital collections to find their ancestors. The Library of Virginia, the state library and archive, provides the best place to find your ancestor you can't find anywhere else. This presentation will cover the Library of Virginia's collections and records that you can access at home through the Library's digital collection website, Virginia Memory.

Engagement Through Technology Fundraiser

To help participants access the technology they need to take part in virtual activities from home, the ServiceSource Foundation has launched the Technology Grant Program. This program will help by providing tablets to older adults and people with disabilities who need them the most.
