On January 26, 2021, the Board of Supervisors (“Board”) authorized the consideration of Plan amendment (PA) 2021-IV-LP1 for the LP2-Lorton-South Route 1 Community Planning Sector and Suburban Center (“the Suburban Center”) in the Mount Vernon Supervisor District.
The most recent areawide review of the LP2 Suburban Center Plan occurred in 1992. Over the past decade several community members met regularly to discuss a new vision and outlook for future development to create an environment for living, shopping, dining, gathering and working within the local setting. Accordingly, a comprehensive review of the Plan guidance for this area is warranted to ensure it remains responsive to current conditions and future opportunities.
In authorizing this amendment, the Board directed staff to identify and evaluate potential changes that reflect the community’s vision through an updated plan for land use, placemaking and connectivity, parks and recreational areas, environmental corridors, historic resources, public facilities, multi-modal transportation and other supporting infrastructure that could contribute to an improved “sense of place” within the Lorton area.
