Countywide Policy Plan Amendment

On May 13, 2025, the Board of Supervisors authorized the consideration of a Comprehensive Plan amendment to incorporate the Active Transportation and Trails Plan, including updates to the Transportation Element of the Policy Plan to align technical terms, definitions and facility type recommendations, map notes and to remove references to the Countywide Trails Plan and Bicycle Master Plan. Additionally, amendments to Special Area Plans and other elements of the Comprehensive Plan may be necessary to reflect updated references and maintain internal consistency across planning documents.  

Since initiated in July 2019, the FCDOT ActiveFairfax Transportation Plan study has focused on updating and consolidating the Comprehensive Plan’s Bicycle Master Plan and Countywide Trails Plan into a single, comprehensive document titled the Active Transportation and Trails Plan.
