On February 20, 2024, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors authorized the consideration of a Comprehensive Plan amendment for 7426 Idylwood Road, where St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is located. The property is currently planned for higher density residential development, which would only be possible to achieve with removal of the church.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church has expressed interest in remaining at their present location and continuing their investment in the community with building additions to support their current and future needs. The Board requested that staff consider: 

• Partial redevelopment options at a lower density that allow the church to remain; and
• Redevelopment for the vacant portion of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church property with single-family attached dwellings.

This Plan amendment will be processed concurrently with a rezoning (RZ-2019-PR-008) and special permit amendment applications.
