On March 20, 2018 following the approval of Plan Amendment 2015-IV-MV1 (Embark Richmond Highway), the Board of Supervisors authorized the consideration of a Comprehensive Plan amendment for a planned trail connection through Huntley Meadows Park from Hayfield Road to Harrison Lane (Tax Maps 100-2, 101-1, 101-2, and 92-4) in the Mount Vernon Planning District, Lee Supervisor District.

The Countywide Trails Plan, a component of the comprehensive Plan, currently recommends a minor paved trail along the southern and eastern edges of Huntley Meadows Park, mostly located within a major power line easement. The trail would connect to a minor paved trail on Hayfield Road to the west that ultimately connects to a major train on Telegraphy Road, and with a minor paved trail on Harrison lane on the east. The Board requested that staff expeditiously consider amending the Countywide Trails Plan to remove the minor paved trail from the Plan.
