Ravenwood Park Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Study
Project Number: SD-000032-087
Project Update: February 13, 2025
The project is in the study phase. Model calibration and existing conditions modeling have been completed. Pending and maximum potential development modeling are underway.
Project Background
The Ravenwood Park neighborhood was developed in the 1950s-60s, before the establishment of modern stormwater management regulations, making it subject to drainage issues. Residences in the neighborhood have experienced recurring flooding in recent years. Stormwater management in the neighborhood is subject to potential impacts from climate change and ongoing redevelopment. The study was initiated by the County to analyze these challenges.
Project Description
The study will utilize PCSWMM one-dimensional and two-dimensional integrated modeling to simulate conditions in the watershed. Various scenarios will be modeled in order to gain a thorough understanding of the stormwater management challenges facing the community.
Goals of the study include:
Analyze existing conditions.
A variety of storm intensities will be modeled to assess their impact on existing stormwater management in the neighborhood. A sensitivity analysis will be performed to determine the least intense design storm that causes structural flooding for all residences in the study area.
Assess potential development impacts.
A pending development scenario will be modeled, incorporating any planned developments in the neighborhood. A maximum potential development scenario will also be modeled.
Assess the impacts of climate change.
The study seeks to understand the impact of projected precipitation increases on stormwater management in the neighborhood. All existing and future condition model scenarios will be run with both current and climate-change adjusted rainfall.
Identify strategic stormwater management solutions to mitigate flooding.
The study will produce a conceptual suite of potential solutions based on model results of both existing and projected future conditions.

Project Location
The study area encompasses the Ravenwood Park neighborhood and surrounding areas.
Project Phase
The project is in the study phase. Model calibration and existing conditions modeling have been completed. Pending and maximum potential development modeling are underway.
Project Benefits
Gain a thorough understanding of flooding and stormwater management challenges facing the neighborhood.
Proactively analyze the future impacts of climate change and ongoing redevelopment on stormwater management in the neighborhood.
Develop conceptual solutions to mitigate flooding based on current and future conditions in the watershed.
Timeline
The study is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2025.
What to Expect
No field work is anticipated at this time.
Project Cost and Funding Source
The Ravenwood Park Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Study (NSIPS) is funded for $330,000. Funding for implementation of solutions is dependent upon future budget availability and allocations. Stormwater projects are funded through the county Stormwater Service District.
Presentation to the Community
As the project advances through the modeling phases, community meetings will be scheduled to update neighborhood residents on the study progress and share findings. Meetings will be scheduled upon completion of existing conditions modeling, strategic stormwater management solution development, and overall study completion.
