Project Update: July 1, 2021

The Final Report has been completed and can be found here: Final Report | Appendix A | Appendix B | Appendix C | Appendix D

A public community meeting took place on February 18, 2021. The presentation may be seen under Presentations to the Community below.

Project Background

This study involves the investigation of potential flood mitigation measures in an area of historic flooding along Tripps Run near Barrett Road.

Project Description and Location

The study assessed and evaluated four flood mitigation project scenarios. These scenarios included grading and stream enhancements within county properties and easements as well as acquiring properties for additional grading opportunities.

The overall study area is located along Tripps Run between Annandale Road and Sleepy Hollow Road in the Bel Air neighborhood. Limits of the potential projects varied with the longest project starting just downstream of Annandale Road and extending to 1,000 feet downstream of Holloway Road.

The project area is shown in the red outline.

Depending on the scenario, the following benefits may be realized:

  • Reduction in property flooding
  • Reduction in residential structure flooding
  • Creation of an environmental corridor with a passive recreational area for the community
  • Improved floodplain connectivity
  • Stream stability, flow diversity and possibly water quality improvements

Timeline

There is no timeline for implementation of potential projects investigated in the study as funding must be identified.

See the Anticipated Project Process.

Project Cost and Funding Source
