Eligibility Guidelines

Head Start is a national child development program that serves families with children from birth to age five, and expectant parents. The program is designed to prepare children for success in school by enhancing their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development. This service is provided at no cost to eligible families.

 

 

[1] The 2024 Poverty guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services became effective on January 17, 2024. The Federal Poverty guidelines are used to determine eligibility for federally funded classrooms and slots. All Fairfax County Head Start/Early Head Start programs use the most current published Federal Poverty guidelines.

[2] The Local guidelines are used to determine eligibility for locally funded classrooms and slots. Tier 1 is 130% of poverty, Tier 2 is 275% of poverty (used by FCPS only).
