On July 18, 2022, the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services hosted a STEAM Summit at James Lee Community Center in Falls Church. The event, which attracted nearly 200 youth, was a collaboration between the Clubhouse Network and NCS Technology Centers.
Every facet of STEAM – which stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math – was represented as NCS Technology Centers showed off the types of activities that take place at our centers every day. The youth were able to experience robotics, Virtual Reality technology, 3D printing, green screen photo editing, LEGO, homemade ice cream, Cricut machine production technology, bracelet making and more.
Kudos to Information Technology Educator David Taylor for his leadership in making the Summit happen, and to all the Technology Center Managers who worked hard to pull the event together. Fifty volunteers also supported the event, a large number of which represented Fairfax County Government Young Professionals (YOPROS), a cohort of employees who seek to expand their professional and personal networks. Thank you to Volunteer Services Manager Hadyn Kihm for the volunteer support.
