Franconia Supervisor Rodney Lusk and the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services invite community input on a mural design for the exterior wall on the east side of Hybla Valley Community Center. The designs were submitted as the result of an April 2024 call for artists. The selected artist will paint the mural in August.
Voting is available July 8-26 (by 5 p.m.). The design finalists are pictured in the graphic at right. Voting is available online or in person at Hybla Valley Community Center, 7950 Audubon Ave., Alexandria, VA.
Fairfax County purchased the facility, originally the Mount Vernon Athletic Club, in May 2020, and the center officially opened in May 2022. The county made several improvements to the facility in the areas of basic accessibility, capital renewal, safety and community use updates. In addition to providing resources for the community, the community center is also the site of the Workforce Innovation Skills Hub (W.I.S.H.), a workforce training and development center.
