Students in grades 7-12 gathered at Jim Scott Community Center in Fairfax on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, for Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services’ “Truth in Voice, Truth in Service” event.
The inaugural event was part of the 2025 Day of Racial Healing in Fairfax County. Earlier this month, the Board of Supervisors proclaimed Jan. 21, 2025, a Day of Racial Healing. The Day of Racial Healing is part of a national effort.
The teens took part in discussions co-facilitated by leaders from NCS and Northern Virginia Community College’s Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Center.
Some of the highlights of the event:
- Anthem HealthKeepers donated 1,200 bags that were used to prepare auto emergency preparedness kits for the Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management and Security (DEMS) to distribute at upcoming community outreach events. Participants created 940 kits.
- The Minority Tech Foundation donated three laptops that were awarded to the event’s most engaged participants.
