Mobility Management

Mobility Management is a customer-centered approach to finding transportation solutions for all populations with a particular focus on people with disabilities, aging populations, those with limited income, and other groups with unique needs.

Neighborhood and Community Services' mobility resources work to improve access to affordable, accessible and safe transportation options for all residents, in order to expand mobility and independence.

Fairfax County is leading the Fairfax County Mobility Access Project (FXMAP), with funds obtained through a grant from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, to bring together community, county, and regional partners to address the following goal areas:

  1. Increase Awareness of Available Transportation Options and Coordinate Transportation Services — Working with communities to increase capacity and expand transportation options and coordination.
  2. Enhance Awareness of Transportation Programs and Develop Training Programs — Working with County agencies and community-based organizations to enhance awareness on transportation options and working with community partners to leverage services and resources.
  3. Develop and Implement Additional Transportation Options — Currently working with identified County and Community partners to provide the Taxi Pilot Program which provides transportation to older adults and individuals with disabilities to medical appointments within Fairfax.
