Fairfax Parks 2020 Poetry Contest: My Parks, My Planet

The Fairfax County Park Authority and the Fairfax County Park Foundation invite students in grades K-8 to enter our 2020 Poetry Contest in honor of National Poetry Month in April. This year’s theme also celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day!  We want to hear how our local parks inspire you to take care of the planet.  Poems should be one page (single-sided).

Six lucky winners will be invited to read their poem at a poetry showcase during the Fairfax County 2020 Earth Day Festival at Sully Historic Site on April 25, 2020. Winners will receive a $50 Fairfax County Park Authority gift card - sponsored by the Fairfax County Park Foundation - to continue exploring Fairfax parks all year long. All participants will be recognized with a certificate.

The 2020 Fairfax Parks poetry contest has concluded and judges are currently reviewing entries. Winners will be announced in April.  Please note that the 2020 Earth Day Fairfax festival has been canceled due to  the COVID-19 crisis; therefore, winners will not be reading their poems at the event. We are working to determine the best way to appropriately recognize our winners and will share more information in April. Thank you to all who entered!

The Fairfax Parks poetry contest is sponsored by the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Fairfax County Park Foundation.
