Park Budget and Fees

The Park Authority Board reviews and approves the annual budget on a fiscal year schedule (July 1 – June 30). The board reviews and approves the Park Authority’s Fee Schedule for each calendar year (Jan. 1 – Dec. 31).


  • Summer 2024: Park Authority Staff Develops Baseline Budget Recommendations and Potential General Fund Reduction Package
  • August 28, 2024 – Park Authority Budget Committee Meeting
    The Park Authority Board receives staff’s recommendations for potential General Fund Budget Reductions and the Proposed General Fund Budget Request Package. Public comment period for the budget submissions opens.
  • September 11, 2024 – Park Authority Budget Committee Meeting
    The board will hear comments from the community during a Budget Input Session. Written public comments on the Park Authority budget package will be accepted through Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024.
  • September 25, 2024 – Park Authority Budget Committee Meeting
    The Park Authority Board will review and approve Potential General Fund Budget Reduction Package and Budget Request Package.
  • October 23, 2024 – Park Authority Budget Committee Meeting
    The Park Authority Board will take all administrative actions to complete the submission of FY 2026 budget materials. Once submitted, they will become part of the county’s budget process

Potential General Fund Budget Reduction Package
Fairfax County takes a proactive approach to budgetary planning for the future. In order to provide the County Executive and Board of Supervisors with options to create a balanced budget, the Department of Management and Budget has requested that all General Fund supported agencies develop a prioritized list of reduction options totaling 10% of their FY 2025 General Fund budget allocation. For the Park Authority, this amount would be $3,561,100.

General Fund Budget Request
The Park Authority’s annual General Fund Budget Request outlines the Park Authority’s budgetary priorities and requests for consideration by the Fairfax County Executive in preparing the county’s FY 2026 Budget. Once submitted, the item becomes part of the county’s budget process.

The Fairfax County Park Authority Board welcomes public input from the community on the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 Budget materials presented at their August 28 Budget Committee Meeting. These items include the proposed General Fund Budget Request and the Fiscal Year 2026 Potential Budgetary Reductions.

All written comments received electronically or via email will be provided by Park Authority Staff to the Park Authority Board for review. Please note that the Park Authority Board and Park Authority staff will not be responding to written or verbal comments or questions submitted. All comments will be recorded and published as part of the meeting record.

Sign Up To Speak

Members of the public may also present budget comments to the board during the Wednesday, September 11 meeting of the Park Authority Board Budget Committee. The Budget Committee will begin at 5:45 p.m. and will be held in the Park Authority Board Room located at the address above. The public input session will conclude prior to the beginning of the Park Authority Board Meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The public input session on the proposed FY 2026 Budget will follow the guidelines below:

  • All testimony during this session must relate specifically to the proposed materials for the FY 2026 Budget.
  • Speakers are requested to sign up in advance using the form below. Speakers will be called in the order their request was received by the Park Authority.
  • Speakers may give testimony in person or virtually.
  • Walk-in speakers will be called following those listed on the list of speakers who signed up in advance.
  • Individuals speaking on their own behalf will have 3 minutes.
  • One authorized representative speaking on behalf of a formally organized or recognized group, association, company, or organization will have 5 minutes to speak.
  • The Park Authority Board and Park Authority staff will not respond to comments or questions.
  • This is a public meeting and all comments will be recorded and posted as part of the meeting record.
  • Speakers are encouraged to submit an electronic copy of their testimony to the Park Authority for the record by emailing it to Parkmail@fairfaxcounty.gov.
