On April 11, 2023 the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors authorized the consideration of a Comprehensive Plan amendment for the Reston Transit Station Area (2023-III-6UP), which was initially classified as Tier 3 on the work program and included ten SSPA nominations in the Hunter Mill District, including the nomination for Lake Fairfax Business Center. On July 25, 2023, this Plan amendment was reauthorized and moved to Tier 1 on the work program.

Lake Fairfax Business Center is a 73-acre suburban style office park consisting of 13 parcels located in Reston north of Sunset Hills Road and south of Lake Fairfax Park. The adopted Plan for this area recommends office, industrial, and institutional uses up to 0.5 floor area ratio (FAR). These recommendations are found in the Reston East Non-TOD District of the Wiehle-Reston East Transit Station Area (TSA) within the Upper Potomac Planning District of Area III volume of the Comprehensive Plan. The Board requested that staff consider a mix of uses for Lake Fairfax Business Center, including multifamily and attached residential, retail, and office.
