The Police Officers Retirement System

The Fairfax County Police Officers Retirement System is the oldest of Fairfax County's retirement systems, and was created under authority granted by Chapter 303 of the Acts of Assembly (law of the Commonwealth of Virginia) on March 29, 1944, to provide defined benefit pension plan coverage for sworn full-time law enforcement officers of the Fairfax County Police Department.

In 1981 Fairfax County enacted Article 7 of the Fairfax County Code, which adopted and continued Chapter 303 as amended.

The System is considered as a single employer public employee retirement syste

The Uniformed Retirement System

The Fairfax County Uniformed Retirement System started on July 1, 1974. It was created to give certain public safety workers a pension, which is a type of retirement plan that pays you monthly after you retire.

In 2005, the membership was expanded to include employees in non‑administrative jobs in the Department of Public Safety Communications. Before that, these employees were part of the Fairfax County Employees’ Retirement System.

The System is considered a single employer public employee retirement system that offers defined‑benefit pensions to its members
