Most Permits to Operate a Food Service Establishments in Fairfax expire on December 31 of each year. Prior to the end of the calendar year, Fairfax County Health Department emails reminders to permit holders, advising them to renew their existing permits. To avoid operating without a valid permit, the annual permit must be renewed by December 31. Renewal applications initiated after December 31 are subject to late fees.

Submit Your Renewal Application
If you are renewing an existing permit, please do not create a new application.
Follow these steps to submit your renewal application:
- Login to your Planning and Land Use System (PLUS) account and click on the “My Records” and find your establishment record(s) listed under Environmental Health.
- Click on “Renew Application” in the Action column to the right of the permit you want to renew and follow the steps to submit. Repeat the process for any additional permits you want to renew.
- If you do NOT have a listing of your Food or Mobile Food Establishment(s) under your record list or have any questions, please contact us at 703-246-2201, option 2.
- To renew your existing food establishment permit, please log on to your PLUS Account on the PLUS Citizen Portal. Click on Renew Application and follow the steps.
