The Neighborhood School Readiness Project supports children's success in kindergarten and beyond, including children’s successful transition to kindergarten. The goals for the Neighborhood School Readiness Project are Ready Child, Ready Families, Ready Early Childhood Professionals, Ready Schools and Ready Communities.
Community-level Neighborhood School Readiness Project teams facilitate partnerships to address the distinct needs of young children and families and to support families’ access to resources that are available, high-quality, affordable and culturally appropriate. Teams include representatives from local government agencies, public schools, early childhood learning and development programs, non-profit organizations and community-based organizations and businesses.
Using the Fairfax County’s Neighborhood and Community Services’ Collective Impact Approach and reflecting goals from the county-wide Successful Children and Youth Policy Team (SCYPT) as well as the framework of Opportunity Neighborhoods, NSRP facilitators work with local NSRP teams to:
- Establish meaningful partnerships with families to grow school readiness opportunities in all communities and support children’s optimal development in all settings.
- Foster quality and effective professional learning in all early childhood programs and services.
- Coordinate the work of partners in support of school readiness efforts.
- Reinforce families’ annual school readiness efforts by providing access to resources when needed.
Currently, Neighborhood School Readiness Project teams are functioning in 10 communities that include 32 elementary schools.
