On October 11, 2022, the Board of Supervisors authorized the consideration of a Comprehensive Plan amendment for Judicial Complex (Tax Map Parcel 57-4((1)) 14 and 57-3 ((1)) 17) in the Providence Supervisor District. The adopted Plan for this area recommends public facilities uses, specifically the establishment of the Judicial Center Complex as the county’s Public Safety Center, which will include adult and juvenile detention facilities, adult and juvenile courts systems, and the main administrations for the police and fire and rescue departments, in the Fairfax Planning District of the Area II volume of the Comprehensive Plan. The Board requested that staff consider the expansion of public facilities uses, including new residential uses that may include affordable and supportive housing, and other land uses supportive of the 2021 Judicial Complex Master Plan for the subject property.
This Plan amendment proposes approximately 2 million square feet of public facilities uses, which includes approximately 1.3 million square feet of existing public facilities uses and 700,000 square feet of new public facilities uses that will accommodate the expansion of the Judicial Complex. It also proposes up to 300 multi-family dwelling units with supporting childcare. This Plan amendment is being considered concurrently with a rezoning application RZPA-2022-PR-00152.
