Stormwater Improvement Projects

Fairfax County Stormwater Management is dedicated to protecting and restoring our vital natural resources through the implementation of stormwater management projects throughout the county.

Fairfax County restores streams to prevent erosion and reduce pollution that could hurt the Chesapeake Bay. Most of the streams in the County have a lot of erosion. By reducing erosion, stream restoration also protects roads, bridges, trails and public and private property. It also helps improve the environment. Stream restorations can help streams heal and are the most effective way for the County to meet state requirements.

Little Pimmit Run Sanitary Sewer Realignment Little Pimmit Run Sanitary Sewer Realignment Little Pimmit Run Stream Restoration at Chesterbrook Road includes an assessment and improvements of approximately 7,500 linear feet of pipes. Little Pimmit Run Tributary at Woodland Terrace Stream Restoration Little Pimmit Run Tributary at Woodland Terrace Stream Restoration The project will restore up to approximately 1,000 linear feet of an unnamed tributary to Little Pimmit Run between Forest Lane and North Albemarle Street in McLean. Long Branch Central Watershed Management Area Project Long Branch Central Watershed Management Area Project This project will restore about 34,000 linear feet of stream in the watershed which runs from Maple Avenue on the west to Wakefield Chapel Road on the east. Long Branch North at Arlington Blvd and Robin Ridge Court Stream Restoration (SD-000031-219) Long Branch North at Arlington Blvd and Robin Ridge Court Stream Restoration (SD-000031-219) The project includes restoration of 4,500 linear feet of Long Branch, its tributaries, stormwater outfalls and the floodplain within the stream valley between Dogwood Lane and Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard). Long Branch North at I66 Stream Restoration Project Long Branch North at I66 Stream Restoration Project The project will restore approximately 2,400 linear feet of degraded channel of Long Branch and its tributaries between I-66 and Old Lee Highway. Stormwater Projects Providence District
Oak Marr Pump Station Rehabilitation Oak Marr Pump Station Rehabilitation The purpose of this project is to maintain the level of sewer service for the Oak Marr Courts community by refurbishing the 35-year-old sanitary sewer pump station. Wastewater Projects Providence District
Old Courthouse Spring Branch at Ashgrove Historic Park Stream Restoration Old Courthouse Spring Branch at Ashgrove Historic Park Stream Restoration The project will restore about 2,000 linear feet of natural stream channel, replace the culvert under Ashgrove Lane and repair the trail. Tucker Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Tucker Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project This neighborhood stormwater improvement project will evaluate existing drainage and stormwater infrastructure throughout the neighborhoods in the vicinity of Tucker Avenue and within a 67 acre drainage area that leads to the local stream, Pimmit Run. Turkeycock Creek at Bren Mar Park Turkeycock Creek at Bren Mar Park This project proposes the restoration and stabilization of a portion of Turkeycock Run which travels through Bren Mar Park in Alexandria, Virginia. Mason District Cameron Run
Valley Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvements Valley Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvements This project will evaluate existing drainage and stormwater infrastructure in the vicinity of Valley and Fairview Avenues and Cross Street. Fairfax County has created detailed plans for managing each of its 30 watersheds. These watershed management plans help identify and solve environmental problems, aiming to protect and restore the county's streams and other water resources.

Partnerships

Many projects have been completed through a partnership between Stormwater Management and other regional organizations. Among the entities that helped to build or make improvements to stormwater management facilities are Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Fairfax County Public School system.
