Aligning with the national “America Recycles Day,” Fairfax Recycles Day has been recognized by the Board of Supervisors on November 15 for several years. The County’s Solid Waste Management Program traditionally celebrates with various events, contests and giveaways.

Fairfax Recycles Day is Saturday, November 15

Come on out to the Backlick VRE on Hechinger Drive in Springfield to celebrate Fairfax Recycles Day! We will be hosting a FREE Touch-A-Truck and Drop-off event from 11 AM-3 PM. Check out our different wastewater and trash & recycling collection vehicles! Bring us your small e-waste, household batteries, glass bottles/jars, and books to be recycled. We also invite you to bring new or gently used winter jackets for ECHO and old glasses for the Lions Club. 2025 Truck Art Design Contest

SWMP encouraged students to submit original artwork reflecting the theme: “imagining a zero-waste future for our communities” to inspire residents to adopt waste reduction, reuse, and recycling practices. Applications are closed as of Friday, October 10, 2025, and are under review. The three winning truck sign designs will be enlarged and prominently displayed on the sides of the Fairfax County SWMP collection trucks. The winning designs will debut on November 15, 2025, at Fairfax Recycles Day and displayed on this webpage.
