Aligning with the national “America Recycles Day,” Fairfax Recycles Day has been recognized by the Board of Supervisors on November 15 for several years. The County’s Solid Waste Management Program traditionally celebrates with various events, contests and giveaways.
Fairfax Recycles Day 2025 was awesome!
This past November 15, 2025, Solid Waste celebrated Fairfax Recycles Day at the Backlick VRE on Hechinger Drive in Springfield. We hosted a FREE Touch-A-Truck and Drop-off event from 11 AM-3 PM. Lots of young families came out to explore our different wastewater and trash & recycling collection vehicles! Over 250 residents brought us their e-waste, household batteries, glass bottles/jars, and books to be recycled. They also donated dozens of gently used winter jackets and working appliances to ECHO and hundreds of eyeglass frames to the Lions Club. Scroll down to the bottom of this page to see photos of our 2025 event and we look forward to seeing you next year!
2025 Truck Art Design Contest
At our annual Fairfax Recycles Day event this past November 15, 2025, SWMP announced the three winning designs that reflected the theme: “Imagining a zero-waste future for our communities.” The designs will be displayed on the sides of the Fairfax County SWMP collection trucks in 2026.
