Fairfax Recycles Day

Fairfax Recycles

Aligning with the national “America Recycles Day,” Fairfax Recycles Day has been recognized by the Board of Supervisors on November 15 for several years. The County’s Solid Waste Management Program traditionally celebrates with various events, contests and giveaways.

2024 Drop-Off Event and Touch-A-Truck

Saturday, November 16, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bring us your hard-to-recycle items, check out cool trucks, and enjoy some snacks! Join the Solid Waste Management Program at the Gerry Hyland Government Center parking lot (8350 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, Virginia 22309) for a recycling drop-off and touch-a-truck event. County residents can drop off:

  • household batteries
  • glass (bottles and jars)
  • textiles
  • organics/food waste
  • plastic bags
  • Small electronic waste or e-waste (no bigger than 24-inch by 24-inch in size)
    • Small e-waste includes computers, laptops, hard drives, toner and ink cartridges, cell and smart phones, power supplies, audio equipment, mice, keyboards and servers

There will be snacks and recycling and waste reduction resources, as well as a variety of trucks on display.

We cannot accept household hazardous waste (HHW) (e.g., appliances, car batteries, motor oil, paint, etc.). County residents can take HHW to the I-66 Transfer Station or I-95 Landfill Complex.
