Therapeutic Recreation Services

NCS Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS) is committed to providing services, education and resources to meet the needs of participants and assist them on the road toward lifelong participation and enjoyment in recreation and leisure activities. Staff provide support and advocacy to individuals who wish to participate in general recreation activities.

Programs and Registration

Therapeutic Recreation Services has recreation and leisure programs for all ages. Registration is through our Therapeutic Recreation Activities Centralized Electronic System (TRACERS), which allows customers to create a personalized login account, search program offerings and submit most registration materials online. New customers should create a TRACERS Customer Account.

F.A.N.tastic Times

Family Autism Night (F.A.N.) is a program offered by Therapeutic Recreation Services – a branch of the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services. It is a FREE drop-in program for individuals with disabilities ages 2 to 22 years old and their families.

Sensory Rooms at Jim Scott, Lorton and Sully Community Centers offer a person-centered, safe and nurturing environment designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals of all ages—and particularly those with physical and intellectual disabilities—through structured interaction and engagement with the room’s unique features.

Inclusive Services for Older Adults

Inclusion services for older adults enable seniors with minor cognitive and physical disabilities to actively participate in the day-to-day activities at Fairfax County Senior Centers. The program is provided in partnership with ServiceSource – a local non-profit organization with extensive background in supporting older adults and adults with disabilities.

Fairfax Falcons Adapted Sports is a county/community partnership program providing athletic engagement for individuals ages 4 to 22 who have not graduated high school.

Virtual Activities

Virtual Center for Active Adults: Offers live facilitated activities along with a variety of on-demand programs and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities.

NCS Connects: NCS’s virtual resource for youth, teens, parents and guardians offers a variety of on-demand programming focused on health and wellness, STEAM, academics, culture and adapted virtual learning.
