Fairfax County provides vacuum leaf collection services in some areas. Not all county collection customers are subscribers. To find out if your residence is served, view the service area map.
The 2024-2025 vacuum leaf collection season ended Friday, February 28. Moving forward, here are some ways to handle your leaves and other yard waste:
MULCH: Mulch leaves into your lawn with a lawnmower. Use a mulching blade to chop the leaves into fine particles. To prevent patches of dead grass in the spring, make sure the leaves are evenly distributed and not densely piled in one spot.
COMPOST: The leaves you rake, the grass you mow, and the branches you trim are some of the ingredients you can use to make compost at your home. For more information, visit this webpage.
BAG:Yard waste collection for single-family and townhouse communities starts MARCH 1. Yard waste collected by county and private waste services is recycled at a commercial composting facility.
Submit questions and concerns by filling out the Solid Waste Feedback Form or calling 703-802-3322 | TTY 711.
