Who Joins Friends of Access Services?

The Friends of Access Services is composed of clients and interested parties formed in 2005 to provide advice and assistance to the Access Services branch of the Fairfax County Public Library. The focus is on providing library services to people who cannot read standard print or cannot access the county library branches because of vision impairment or physical limitations.

What Does the Friends Group Do?

  • The Friends of Access Services group shares information on resources and assistive technology to make printed material more accessible to those with special needs.
  • The group promotes awareness of library services for people with vision impairment or physical limitations.
  • Unlike most other Friends groups, this group does no fund raising and there are no book sales.
  • The Friends support and promote Access Services library activities.

The Friends of Access Services group meets quarterly with the Access Services branch manager and welcomes new members. There are no dues. The only requirements for membership are a love of books and a desire to help those with special needs.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Friends of Access Services, call the Access Services office at 703-324-8380, TTY 703-324-8365, or send an email to
