The Friends of the Dolley Madison Library have been in existence for over 35 years, having been formed initially to push for the creation of a new building for the Library. The original Dolley Madison Library was housed from 1956 until 1967 in a very small brick building, previously the McLean Post Office, on Elm Street.
Accomplishments
Over the years the Friends have raised funds in support of a new building, Library furnishings, equipment, signage, programs and books. More recently, they have supported the Library's volunteer program by funding an annual volunteer recognition luncheon. They are also funding the branch's new 3D printing service.
Book Sales
Funds are raised primarily through an ongoing Booksale, maintained by volunteers at the branch. Sale books come from donations made to the library. The Booksale is located across from the physical Audio Book section of the library, near the Quiet Study Room.
Donation Process
The friends appreciate the donation of books for their ongoing sale. Books donated to the library need to be fairly recent and in good condition. Magazines need to be current. There is a two bag or two box limit for donated books a day. There is a cart where you can unpack the books near the circulation desk. Thank you!
